THE REFURBISHED FACILITY WAS OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER TO THE COMMUNITY IN A CEREMONY ON FEBRUARY 15, 2024.

The Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF), via the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), has again helped transform the learning landscape for staff and students, this time, of the La Croix Maingot Pre-School with the retrofitting of a Pre-K Classroom.

Funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) with an investment of XCD270,000.00, the refurbished facility was officially handed over to the community in a ceremony on February 15, 2024.

Underlining the collaborative spirit of this initiative, Hon. Joachim Henry, Minister of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment, emphasized the importance of inclusive community parenting programs involving men to fortify projects like the La Croix Pre K-class retrofitting.

"It was mentioned that such projects should incorporate a parenting program. This is crucial in shaping and imparting positive values to our preschoolers. When we discuss parents, we must remember that it includes men as well. We need to address the social issue of fathers not being present."

The facility underwent comprehensive upgrades, including electrical maintenance, painting, plumbing enhancements, and the expansion of classrooms to incorporate improved toilet facilities.

While emphasizing gratitude, Minister for Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training Hon. Shawn Edward stated that in recognizing the significance of early education, the Ministry has adjusted its approach towards Early Childhood creative environment facilities.

"I extend my gratitude to the SSDF and all participating agencies. We have come to realize the importance of introducing children to the school system early on. In early childhood, our focus is not to burden our children with excessive content but to provide facilities and spaces that stimulate their growth across dimensions.”

Parliamentary Representative for Castries South, Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, emphasized the critical importance of a well-equipped classroom with optimal learning conditions right from an early age.

"Research has consistently shown that starting on the right footing significantly influences the journey's end. Let's ensure we get it right from the beginning. A properly equipped classroom on the right path to face future challenges.”

As a unified force, the SSDF, an agency of the Ministry of Equity, eliminates duplication of effort and combines available resources to help alleviate poverty and vulnerability among the most marginalized individuals in society.
