The Community Policing Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, along with the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority, is pleased to announce significant progress in the Derelict Vehicle Removal Exercise, which commenced on November 5, 2024. As of Friday, January 31, 2025, a total of four hundred and ninety-four (494) vehicles have been recorded and tagged for removal across the island.

Since the beginning of the exercise, two hundred and seventy-seven (277) derelict vehicles have already been successfully removed. This includes one hundred and twenty-six (126) vehicles removed by the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority and one hundred and fifty-one (151) vehicles voluntarily removed by their respective owners. The initiative continues to gain momentum, with efforts focused on enhancing public health, safety, and environmental standards by eliminating unsightly, hazardous, and abandoned vehicles across communities.

The Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority and the Community Policing Unit commend all vehicle owners who have actively participated in this exercise by removing their derelict vehicles and urged others to follow suit. The collective efforts of the authorities and the public have made a positive impact on improving the aesthetic of neighborhoods, promoting safer roads, and mitigating environmental hazards caused by rusted and abandoned vehicles.

Residents are reminded that they can continue to take part in the exercise by voluntarily removing any derelict vehicles on their properties. Further details and assistance can be obtained by contacting the Solid Waste Management Authority at telephone numbers 724 5525 or 453 2208.
