AMONG DISCUSSIONS WERE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, CLIMATE RESILIENCE.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon. Philip J. Pierre was paid a courtesy visit by the Rt. Hon. AnneMarie Trevelyan, the United Kingdom’s State Minister (Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change). Discussions centered around the climate resilient projects which are being implemented in Saint Lucia by the United Kingdom Government to strengthen the country’s capacity to deal with changing weather patterns.
One of the major areas of cooperation is the economic infrastructure projects, namely the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Upgrade Project which are expected to boost economic growth, reduce travel time and build the climate resilience of our road network.
The Prime Minister also highlighted other areas for cooperation in tourism, building climate resilience, crime reduction and the youth economy as the new administration manages the economy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing global spike.
The UK State Minister who is on the last leg of her regional visit addressed issues of access to finance to Small Island Developing States to not only mitigate against disasters but also build climate resilience.
The Government of Saint Lucia will participate in COP26 which will be held in Glasgow to find ways to tackle transformational projects for this new administration.
