THE TOUR PROVIDED AN OVERVIEW OF KEY CDP INVESTMENTS IN CASTRIES (NORTH).
Hon. Stephenson King, Senior Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development, and Urban Renewal, as well as the Parliamentary Representative for Castries North, recently joined Her Excellency Nicole Su, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia, on a tour of several development projects funded through the Constituency Development Program (CDP) by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The tour provided an overview of key CDP investments in Castries (north) and highlighted their significant impact on both infrastructure and the quality of life within the constituency.
The tour featured a variety of ongoing projects, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of the community.
During the visit, Senior Minister Stephenson King and Her Excellency Nicole Su toured four CDP-funded projects: the Agard Playing Field, Morne Du Don Retaining Walls, the Chase Gardens/Carellie Human Resource Development Centre (including upgrades to the facility), and the current Carellie Park.
Following the tour, a statement from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) read: "We are extremely impressed by the implementation of the Constituency Development Programme (CDP) during our field visits organized by the Department of Economic Development Saint Lucia. [It was a] great honour to be accompanied by Hon. Stephenson King, Senior Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal, and Hon. Richard Frederick, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Housing and Local Government, for the project sites at Castries East, Castries North, and Castries Central.
"We witnessed the positive impacts of the betterment of drainage systems, market booths, multipurpose sport courts, roads, footpaths, steps, bus shelters, retaining walls, and community centre renovations. Each project may seem small, but together, these projects significantly improve the quality of life.
"We thank the ministers for their vision, the CDP Unit of Ministry of Economic Development for their dedication, and the people of Saint Lucia for having Taiwan to walk this path alongside you."
Senior Minister King expressed sincere gratitude to the Republic of China (Taiwan) for its invaluable support, while also acknowledging the patience of residents throughout the development process.
“We continue to make progress one project at a time. Together, we are shaping a constituency of opportunity, safety, and community pride. This journey is far from over, and we look forward to a future filled with continued growth."
