The first order of business of the association under the new leadership will be to reactivate and increase its membership.

The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba) held its fourth biennial general meeting at the Auberge Seraphine Hotel earlier this week to elect a new executive.

The new president Marlene Alexander, replaces former president Rawle Harvey. The outgoing president Mr. Harvey, is a founding member of the 12-year-old organization and has served as president from its inception. Other retiring officers included former first Vice President Irvin John, and the Public Relations Director, Maurice Moffat.

Tributes were made by Cuban Ambassador HE Jorge Soberon, and Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, HE Leiff Escolona. Solidarity messages came from former Cuban graduate Peter Lansiquot and veteran Caribbean journalist Earl Bousquet, who has had a long association with Cuba through the former Saint Lucia-Cuba Friendship Association (SLCFA).

The first order of business of the association under the new leadership will be to reactivate and increase its membership. The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia-Cuba) has among its main objectives “to engender cordial and open relations between the people of Saint Lucia and Cuba,” to disseminate factual information about Cuba, and to explore the development of cultural exchanges between the two countries.
