The Ministry of the Public Service, Information & Broadcasting will spearhead the week of activities
Plans are well advanced for the observance of Occupational Safety and Health Week from April 28- May 02, under the global theme: “SAFETY AND HEALTH IN THE USE OF CHEMICALS AT WORK”.

The week of activities are  in keeping with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work which is observed on April 28 each year. The objective of the observance is to raise awareness of emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health, and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities.

The Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting, which has been charged with the responsibility of spearheading the planning, is collaborating with several other government agencies for a successful execution.

The full slate of activities for Occupational Safety and Health Week will be unveiled officially at a brief ceremony slated for April 28 at the GIS Studios at 9:00am.

According to the ILO, "When too little is done to prevent occupational diseases this negatively impacts not only workers and their families,  but also  society at large, due to the tremendous costs  particularly, in terms of loss of productivity and the burdening of social security systems.”
