COMMISSIONER PELIUS IS A DECORATED POLICE OFFICER WITH MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE.

Prime Minister and Minister for National Security, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, yesterday announced the appointment of Mrs. Crusita Descartes-Pelius as the Commissioner of Police (Ag.).

Commissioner Pelius is a decorated police officer with more than three decades of experience in law enforcement. Prior to her appointment as Police Commissioner, she served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) responsible for Corporate Services and Strategic Operations.

“I would like to thank the Hon. Prime Minister for the confidence he has placed in me to head the organization at such a challenging time,” said Commissioner Pelius at the Oct. 17 ceremony. “Let me assure you, sir, that I will do my best, and I am looking forward to the support of the men and women of the organization as I lead.”

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre said: “This is an historic time for the women of the country and is a testimony of our confidence in the women of Saint Lucia. Congratulations to Mrs. Crusita Descartes-Pelius on her appointment as the Commissioner of Police (COP Ag.). Her training and 34 years of service to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) have readied her for this critical position of leadership at a time when the region faces a number of security threats, especially gun violence.

“I would also like to thank Mr. Milton Desir for his service to our country during his tenure as Police Commissioner, and I wish him well during his retirement. I will continue to support the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force by allocating funding for training and other necessary resources to ensure the safety and quality of life of citizens.”

Police Commissioner Peluis was enlisted in the police force in 1988. She attained the rank of Sergeant in 2001, and Superintendent of Police in 2015. In addition to successfully completing and participating in a multitude of theoretical and practical courses and training exercises, Commissioner Descartes-Pelius also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies from The University of the West Indies.

Mrs. Crusita Descartes-Pelius succeeds Police Commissioner Milton Desir, whose tenure came to an end on Oct. 14.
