THE SCHOOL IS ALSO BEING BUILT TO SERVE AS AN EMERGENCY SHELTER.

The Government of Saint Lucia is pressing on with plans for the integration of technology in the education sector. The Micoud Secondary School will soon boast a SMART bloc that encompasses not only modern technology but climate resilient features.

Minister for Education Dr. Gale Rigobert, said the aim is to build a SMART school block by block where, technology, energy, resilience and accessibility to differently-abled students are at the core.

The Government of Saint Lucia received financing from the World Bank through the Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (DVRP) for the construction of the ultra-modern smart block at the Micoud Secondary School. The school is also being built to serve as an emergency shelter capable of providing continuity of service to approximately 700 students and 350 patrons during and within the aftermath of natural disasters.

Through a competitive bidding process Cepal Holdings Ltd was awarded the EC$5.8 million contract to undertake the project within 15 months.

The Micoud Secondary School celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. It has an enrollment of 681 students.
