THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH PROMOTES HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES THROUGH INCREASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.

On Saturday, August 24th, 2024, the Micoud community was abuzz with energy and excitement as Le Club Volleyball Athletic Club, in partnership with Saint Lucia Moves and the Ministry of Health Wellness and Elderly Affairs delivered a vibrant and action-packed day of volleyball as part of the ongoing Round the Island Volleyball Series. This event not only showcased the athletic skillset of participants but also aligned seamlessly with the Ministry of Health’s mission to promote healthier lifestyles through increased physical activity and regular health checkups.
Tevin Ferrel, a member of Le Club Volleyball, highlighted the event’s potential to inspire change within the community.
“We are trying to make something happen on the island and to push the sport in some way, shape, or form because nothing is really happening on the island. So, whether it impacts one person or two persons, at least someone is impacted. “I believe that this Micoud event may inspire someone today to take up the sport of volleyball,” said Ferrel.
Complementing the athletic showcase, the event also featured health screenings provided by the Micoud Wellness Centre. Germaine Dalsou, a Community Health Nurse at the Centre, highlighted the importance of regular health monitoring as a foundation for a healthier lifestyle.
“We are assessing clients’ vital signs by checking their blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index, and blood sugar levels. We encourage people to maintain a healthy lifestyle. By doing this, they are better equipped to make informed health decisions,” Dalsou stated.
As the Round the Island Volleyball Series continues, the organizers remain committed to impacting lives across Saint Lucia, one community at a time, encouraging everyone to embrace a more active and health-conscious way of living.
