THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH, WELLNESS AND ELDERLY AFFAIRS IS THE RECIPIENT OF COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT VALUED AT OVER TWENTY THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS (USD$20, 000.00). THE EQUIPMENT DONATION BY THE PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION (PAHO) WILL AID IN STRENGTHENING THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION ON HEALTH TO THE POPULATION OF SAINT LUCIA.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs is the recipient of communication equipment valued at over Twenty Thousand United States Dollars (USD$20, 000.00). The equipment donation by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will aid in strengthening the dissemination of information on health to the population of Saint Lucia.
During a brief handing-over ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2023, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs, Ms. Jenny Daniel expressed gratitude to PAHO and reassured that the equipment will be put to optimum use.
Country Programme Specialist for PAHO Reynold Hewitt said, “PAHO was pleased to make the donation of communication equipment which it believes will significantly improve the Communication Unit’s capacity to deliver health messages to vulnerable populations and to create the messages in formats for all to understand. On Behalf of Dr. Amalia Del Riego, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/WHO Director, I hereby handover these pieces of equipment to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs.”
Thursday’s donation is an addition to the list of previous donations by the Pan American Health Organization. “During the pandemic, PAHO facilitated human resource training, donated personal protective equipment, oxygen concentrators, laboratory supplies, and many more hospital accessories towards the government’s response to the pandemic.” Mr. Hewitt noted.
The donation of the communication equipment was made possible with funding from the Canadian government.
