Farmers can now receive assistance in preparing their lands for fruitful crop production.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries, Cooperatives and Rural Development has re-introduced its land preparation program.
Head of the Engineering Department, Faustinus Monero, said the first step of good crop production is well prepared soil.
“Land preparation is key in agricultural production, and it can be very costly and it can be very time consuming. And the ministry, realizing that, has decided to offer that service again.”
Monero said the ministry will first conduct an assessment of the land to ensure it is usable. Advice will then be given on how to prepare the land.
“After the assessment is done a suitable implement is designated to help the farmer prepare the land. Right now we have acquired a fleet of tractors, small implements and machines, that will allow us to offer that service once more. So the farming community should be made aware that that service is available.”
Farmers interested in taking advantage of this program are asked to contact the nearest extension office.
