King addresses offshore employment

The minister will meet with Canadian employers regarding the Agricultural Farm Workers Program.

The Minister with responsibility for Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour, Hon. Stephenson King, departed the island on Sunday, Sep. 11 for an official visit to Canada.

Minister King was accompanied by Labour Commissioner Ray Narcisse, and Labour Relations Specialist and Consultant, Winhall Joshua.

Over the course of 11 days, the minister will be meeting with farmers and employers in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, with a view to discussing, exploring and creating off-shore employment opportunities in Canada for Saint Lucian nationals, especially during the Canadian Seasonal Agricultural Farm Workers Program.

Furthermore, the minister will have an opportunity to address and interact with a number of Saint Lucians living in the greater Toronto area. Arrangements are also being made for the minister to meet with several Canadian entrepreneurs interested in doing business in Saint Lucia.

The delegation will also meet and have discussions with officials of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) liaison service in Toronto, and the staff of the Consulate General of Saint Lucia.

Minister King will return to the island on Sep. 22.
