Noted Saint Lucian artist and Goodwill Ambassador, Jallim Eudovic, has been awarded the 2020 Anthony N. Sabga Caribbean Award for Excellence in the category of Arts and Letters.

Eudovic is the second Saint Lucian to be conferred with the prestigious designation of Caribbean Laureate, the first being Dr. Adrian Augier who won in the same category in 2010.

The annual awards are underwritten by the ANSA McAL Foundation headquartered in Trinidad and Tobago, and are the Caribbean’s most esteemed accolade given in the four areas of Arts and Letters, Science and Technology, Public and Civic Contribution, and Entrepreneurism.

The other 2020 Caribbean recipients were David Andrew Mendes of Guyana for Entrepreneurship; Dr. Olivene Burke of Jamaica for Public and Civic Contributions; and Dr. Shirin Haque of Trinidad and Tobago for Science and Technology.

The ANSA Caribbean Awards for Excellence recognize the exceptional achievement of individuals from Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and the OECS. The Awards constitute the first and most generous recognition program of its kind initiated by a regional private sector foundation.

The Awards acknowledge exemplary bodies of work rather than single achievements, and are offered to encourage and support candidates whose contributions have the potential to impact and inspire other emerging persons in their fields. By seeking out and supporting Caribbean exemplars, the Foundation gives substance to its philosophy that the validation of Caribbean achievement needs to start in the Caribbean.

Given current constraints on regional travel, Mr. Eudovic’s award was conferred at a virtual ceremony held at Government House on last Thursday evening with some thirty guests attending.  These included the Laureate and his family, members of the Ansa Foundation’s Eminent Persons Panel, government officials and fellow artists from St. Lucia’s cultural sector.
