The cheque will be used to revitalize the corps and improve its services.

Her Excellency, Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy, on Thursday presented The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps with a cheque in commemoration of its 85th anniversary.

The $10,000 cheque, from funds raised at a Cocktail Reception and Ball hosted under the distinguished patronage of Dame Pearlette at Government House, will help to revitalize the Corps.

The Corps was initially established on July 13, 1929, to nurture and develop the youth to become productive citizens and young leaders.

“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you, once again, on the achievement of an 85-year milestone for an organization that is mandated to groom, to nurture, and to develop young persons,” the Governor General said.

“We are proud to say we have touched many lives in Saint Lucia,” Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Nathan Hyacinth said. “We have touched more than 5000 persons who have passed through this organization since the 1980s. To this end the Cadet Corps has set off on a venture where we are trying to bring back all of these persons who have served within the organization. We want to find out how the Cadet Corps touched the lives of its members and how they themselves can assist us in creating better new days.”

The aim of the venture is to improve the services of the Corps.
