The hamper drive was part of the staff development program that encourages reaching out to communities.

For the second consecutive year, Victoria Hospital has embarked on a hamper drive as part of a Staff Development Program.

Nurse Rita Mason said the focus of the activity is to reach out to both current and retired staff.

“The hamper drive basically was geared toward retired persons who have worked with us and who need assistance. It's a good initiative that is ongoing, and we hope we can continue into next year," she said.

Nurse Mason added that the hamper drive is just one of the activities planned as part of the Staff Development Program, which is geared at bringing staff together in productive ways to achieve the goals of the hospital.

“Staff from various departments at the Victoria Hospital contributed the non-perishable items to create eleven hampers that were presented to the deserving individuals. The clinical staff, support services, accounts, the lab, and housekeeping all came together.”

Former Orderly at Victoria Hospital, Mr. Rosemund George of Cacoa, Babonneau, was one of the recipients who said he was surprised by the donation.

“To see the nurses and all the staff around brings tears to my eyes because I wasn't expecting it, but I am very happy to see that everybody is still with me and knows that I am here," George said.

Hampers were also presented to nine other former staff members: Andre Joseph of Grand Riviere; Sharon St. Rose of Paix Bouche, Babonneau; Arthur Lionel of Cornerstone Humanitarian Society; Juliana Griffith of Chase Gardens; Sister Jemmott of Carrellie; Pauline Mittle of Faux La Chaux; Rose Ford of Hospital Road; Elmona St. Rose of Pavee; and Baynes Ragunanan of Ciceron.

Hospital officials noted that activities such as the hamper drive helps with the re-imaging efforts of Victoria Hospital, as the hospital is not only interested in providing the best health care possible but in reaching out to the people of St. Lucia.

The hamper drive took place last Wednesday.
