The month-long observance will culminate on Oct. 26 in the communities of Anse La Raye, Dennery, Monchy and Vieux-Fort.
The Folk Research Centre (FRC) has begun celebrations for Creole Heritage Month, observed every year in October.
According to the FRC, Creole Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and show appreciation for Saint Lucian culture. This year marks the 13th anniversary of Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day) celebrations in Saint Lucia.
The observance of Creole Heritage Month will be held under the theme “Kwéyòl La Vivan.” The highlight of Creole Heritage Month will be the Jounen Kweyol celebration on Sunday, Oct. 26 in four host communities. The chosen host communities are Anse La Raye, Dennery, Monchy and Vieux-Fort.
The FRC will also be collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and the Creative Industries to organize a number of activities which include Fet Kwéyòl at the Gaiety, Oct. 17; Swavé Kwéyòl at Fond D’Or, Oct. 18; and Manjé Kwéyòl at Pointe Seraphine, Oct. 19.
Other activities for this year’s Creole Heritage celebrations are a cultural education program, an evening of music, story-telling and poetry, LaWenn Kwéyòl and the Woulelaba Cricket Competition.
