The Youth Ambassador Corps encouraged young people to harness technology to help aid development.

Saint Lucia joined the rest of the Caribbean in commemorating Caribbean Youth Day, Tuesday. The CARICOM Secretariat’s Caribbean Youth Day offers the region the opportunity to celebrate young people.

This year, Caribbean Youth Day was celebrated under the theme: “Embracing Technology to Promote Innovative and Sustainably Conscious Caribbean Youth.”

The region’s youth were encouraged to embrace technology, leverage it and use its benefits to contribute to future generations.

The CARICOM Youth Ambassador Corps called on young people to not only use technology for socialization and entertainment purposes, but to employ their creative abilities to be innovative with the technology. It is hoped that embracing technology can foster more sustainable development across the region and allow for greater Caribbean integration.

The region’s youth were challenged to use technology to pioneer novel ideas that will ultimately lead all CARICOM member states to develop sustainable economies, and to be the catalyst for change that will positively impact the social, economic and political landscape of the region by means of technology.
