HEALTH OFFICIALS EMPHASIZE THE BENEFITS OF ADOPTING HEALTHIER HABITS.

Hundreds of participants of all ages gathered at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort for the 2nd Annual Caribbean Wellness Day Walk, culminating a week of activities celebrating Caribbean Wellness Day.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), the Saint Lucia Wake Up and Run initiative, and the Saint Lucia Moves Campaign.

Dr. Gennie Issac-Louisy, District Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs and walk participant emphasized the holistic benefits of adopting healthier habits.

"When we examine our nation holistically, we see that our health is a priority. We should move more, eat healthier, get good quality sleep, and manage our stress better. If we do all these things, we would be better off," said Dr. Issac-Louisy, reinforcing the Ministry's focus on preventative methods.

Minister for Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, Hon. Moses Jn. Baptiste, lauded the success of the event, noting its potential to inspire similar activities at the grassroots level.

"I think it is very important to try our very best to cause events like this to occur spontaneously at the community level. The Ministry hopes that by setting an example, organizations such as churches, schools, community groups and clubs will gravitate toward this initiative. Furthermore, I do hope that this becomes a normal way of life for Saint Lucians."

The participants themselves felt the impact of the event, not just on their fitness but also on their sense of community. Wendy, a regular fitness enthusiast, shared her excitement.

"I have always enjoyed anything that has to do with fitness. When I heard of this activity, I had to be a part of it. I think every person, young or old, should take part in activities like this because it is an excellent opportunity to take care of your health."

Reves, another participant, highlighted the importance of making events like these more frequent. "I think that this is a great initiative. Everyone is moving towards the fast-food trend. Having an activity of this magnitude twice a year, if possible, would be a good thing. It ensures people stay in top shape, but what I love most is seeing younger children participate."

The Caribbean Wellness Day September 15 walk, demonstrated the transformative power of communityled health initiatives. The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs remains committed to promoting wellness across all sectors of society.
