Free ICT training opportunities are now available for unemployed youth.

The Caribbean Regional Infrastructure Program (CARCIP), in collaboration with Monroe College commenced a series of classes in ICT Skills Development in the last quarter of 2015.

CARCIP’s Business Incubator and Training Grant Manager, Cindy Peterson Alfred, said the program is integral to the growth and development of the ICT sector.

“There are a number of ICT skills courses available, " said Ms. Alfred. "Over the coming months people will be trained and certified in various ICT areas including animation, information technology, systems analysis and design, database management and many other courses."

The courses are free to unemployed youth between the ages of 17 to 35 and comprise technical training, soft skills training and an internship.

Dr. Sonia Alexander, Director of Academics at Monroe said the program will follow the institution’s core standards and processes. As a result, students will obtain college credits that can go toward a university degree.

“The courses are semester long courses which take place over fifteen weeks. We are into the semester already, so this course will go until February 2016. At the end, the students who have successfully completed the course, will obtain three college credits for the course they have done in addition to a certificate."

Successful candidates may also receive a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) depending on the course undertaken.
