THE STAR SPRINTER BRINGS A TRIUMPHANT CLOSE TO THE SEASON.
Saint Lucians will have much more to celebrate in the coming days as they await the arrival of the Paris Olympic and Diamond League 100-meter gold medalist, Julien Alfred.

The 23-year-old made light work of the field to win the Diamond League final at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Friday, September 13, 2024. Alfred ran out of lane 5, with Dina Asher-Smith (UK Lane 4) and Sha’Carri Richardson (USA Lane 6) motoring her way to the finish in 10.88 seconds.

Dina Asher-Smith (UK) came in second in 10.92 seconds, Marie Jose Ta Lou–Smith (Ivory Coast) came in third in 11.05 seconds, and one of the favorites Sha’Carri Richardson eased off well before the line in the knowledge she had been well beaten, eventually finishing eighth in the nine-woman field in 11.23 seconds.

Alfred ran a similar time in the 100m race at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League on Sep. 5, securing a silver medal for her 10.88 second sprint, only slightly edged out by US athlete Sha'Carri Richardson who finished in 10.84.

"Join me in congratulating Olympic Champion, Julien Alfred on capturing 1st Place in the Women’s 100m Wanda Diamond League Finals in Brussels with a time of 10.88 seconds.
We are immensely proud you and can’t wait to welcome you back to celebrate your achievements," said Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.
