VACANCY NOTICE
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for employment in the post of MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I (ELECTRICIAN) at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.
A. OBJECTIVE AND RELATIONSHIP
- Carries out electrical service, maintenance, repairs, trouble-shooting and upgrades of electrical wiring and power systems at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.
- Works under the direction and supervision of the Electro-Mechanical Engineer (Electrical Engineer) to provide general support to the Maintenance Department at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.
- Ensures that all the systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely.
B. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertaking of a wide range of electrical works including remedial works, alterations and extensions; consumer unit and distribution panel upgrades; installation and termination of electrical devices, cables, switch gear fixtures, accessories and equipment; temporary electrical and construction site set-ups; working with conduit and/or trunking, and general electrical repairs and maintenance at the Medical Complex.
- Provide support to the Electrical Engineer and Licensed Electrician in electrical fault finding, troubleshooting and inspection and testing
- Performs reactive maintenance and routine preventative maintenance of electrical wiring and power systems as directed by the Electrical Engineer and Licensed Electrician
- Carry out Planned Predictive and Preventative Maintenance and record in Checklist and Service logbook.
- Record daily activities in Daily Activities Logbook and submit reports when requested
- Assist the Electrical Engineer and Licensed Electrician to prepare material estimates and scope of works.
- Responds to emergencies and within agreed time limits to call-outs
- Perform any other work-related duties as may be assigned by the HOD.
C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- A working knowledge of the structure of the Public Service rules and machinery of Government's administrative policies and procedures and the ability to apply Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the St. Lucia Electricity Supply Act and Regulations and the IET Wiring Regulations, BS7671.
- Experience in domestic, industrial or commercial electrical works or site services and knowledge of or experience of 3 phase installations
- Knowledge and ability to use related electrical measuring instruments and tools
- A sound understanding of best practice rules for electrical health and safety and knowledge of safe work practices, including First Aid
- Ability to work safely with ladders and scaffolding and at various heights
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members
- Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively and professionally with a diverse range of people from varying backgrounds and sectors
- Good oral and written communications skills

D. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Full Time Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Installations, Electronics or Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning
OR
- SALCC Level 2 Part Time Certificate in Electrical Installations, Electronics or Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning
OR
- Approved equivalent certification, e.g., City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate/ Diploma and Specialized City and Guilds Certificate in the latest Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, BS7671
AND
Twelve (12) months electrical wiring/installation work experience
F. SALARY
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
