A service of Celebration marking the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the second is being hosted by St. Lucia?s Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy this Sunday, June 09.

The Service of Celebration, being held at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, begins at 7 p.m. Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony and a number of other persons will all pay tribute to Her Majesty.

Some of the suggested themes for the celebration of the Jubilee include the Commonwealth, celebration, community service, looking forward, looking backward and giving thanks. The Service of Celebration incorporates all of these themes.

During her lifetime, Queen Elizabeth II made two significant visits to Saint Lucia. During these visits she declared open the Winban Research Centre, visited the Marian Home and the Girls"Vocational School, met with youth of the country in a youth rally and opened the Red Cross Building in Vigie.

Saint Lucia began celebrating the Golden Jubilee year from February 2002 and activities will be ongoing until February 2003. A number of activities have been planned for the year long celebration which includes a military tattoo on Mindoo Phillip Park as well as a queen's birthday reception at Government House. Both activities are planned for June 15, in commemoration of the Queen's birthday.
