Minister tours newly-renovated fire station

THE RENOVATION PROJECT AT THE SOUFRIERE FIRE STATION IS THE FIRST OF MANY.

The Minister for Home Affairs and National Security, Sen. Hon. Hermingild Francis has affirmed government’s commitment to improving working conditions for fire officers.

The minister spoke Friday, Oct. 20, while on a tour of the newly-renovated Soufriere Fire Station. Also present were the Acting Chief Fire Officer, Joseph Joseph, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Justice and National Security.

Minister Francis said he was aware of the deplorable condition the Soufriere Fire Station and did all he could to ensure the station’s plight was addressed. He commended the government for moving as expeditiously as possible to secure funding for the much needed renovation project.

Following a firsthand inspection of the newly completed works, Minister Francis expressed satisfaction with the professionalism of the contractor. He also praised the Fire Service Association, the Acting Fire Chief Officer and the staff of the Soufriere Fire Station for their forbearance and patience during the period that working conditions were not as conducive as they ought to have been.

Meanwhile, the acting Chief Fire Officer, Joseph Joseph expressed gratitude for the project and indicated that there are works ongoing to improve conditions at several other fire stations throughout the island.
