Meeting called to inform residents and land-owners regarding access routes.

Following an extensive study focused on flood mitigation methods, and in preparation for the 2014 hurricane season, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport will de-silt areas in the Bexon and Marc communities.

Acting Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Len Leon, said that the ministry has zeroed in on these two communities, as they are most prone to flooding.

“We will focus primarily on de-silting the cross drains and culverts in these communities that feed into the main river—especially those that have been neglected for the last decade,” he said.

He added that the ministry will also hold a meeting to educate community members on disaster prevention measures, and to inform them of the access routes that are necessary for completion of the de-silting process.

“I am pleading with residents to attend the meeting, so that we can inform you about the specific areas that we intend to tackle and to advise you of the areas we may need to access in order to get to the intended locations,” Mr. Leon said.

Ministry of Infrastructure officials will meet with Bexon and Marc residents and land owners on Thursday June 5, at 5 p.m., at the Bexon Primary School.

The de-silting project and study was funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
