The Arts Village (May 6 - 9) will present a medley of visual and performance arts, and is an opportunity for festival patrons to become immersed in authentic Saint Lucian culture.
The Arts Village in Rodney Bay opened yesterday, May 6, presenting enthralling mélange of visual arts, fashion, spoken word, theatre and music.
The event, which will be staged over four days, will have on display and sale visual arts and crafts, interspersed with performances and interactive entertainment involving the island’s leading artists in dance, street theatre, masquerade, Djab rituals, Gwan Mouvman, stilt walking, fashion, and music, in a riveting potpourri.
The Rodney Bay strip between the island’s two main shopping malls has been transformed into a pedestrian zone with an exciting expose of Saint Lucian arts, heritage and entertainment. The event serves to enhance the festival experience as patrons become immersed in authentic Saint Lucian cultural expression.
Activities begin daily at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening, the event morphs into a musical blast on stage with concert acts involving some of Saint Lucia’s most popular musicians.
Festival organizers hope to take patrons on a riveting and inspiring journey of Saint Lucia’s rich cultural and historical legacy, as told through the vivid portrayals of artists, crafters and designers via authentic Saint Lucian paintings, pottery, clothing, jewelry, gift items, sculpture, local condiments and souvenirs.
